Gardeners World Episode 1
Episode 1 – Friday 7th March 2014
Monty Don presents the programme and new series from Longmeadow and is assisted by Rachel de Thame at a rose garden. Joe Swift takes a look at a bog garden in West Wales and Carol Klein appreciates the variety of crocus springing up at this time of year.
Despite Longmeadow being flooded over the winter Monty tells us not to worry and that most plants will return.
He shows us how to cut back roses to ensure a healthy set of flowers later in the year.
Jobs to get on with now for allotmenteers and gardeners
- Chillis and peppers are quite slow to germinate so its best to get on with these now. Scatter on a seed tray of compost. They germinate at 20 degrees C so a warm place is required.
- Chit potatoes in a bright sunny position on an open tray to get compact and green shoots for earlies and 2nd earlies. (If they are left in the dark the shoots will be translucent) Chitting is key in order to give you an early crop.
